1)
Four Day Visit and Evening Concert For Grades K-8
"Joe Crone worked with every student in the school to create
an amazing arts performance that helped students understand that they
can make a positive contribution to the world. With a focus on the
curriculum expectations and a sense of humour, students in each class
created their own dramatic presentations that parents said were the
"best performance ever".

Celebrate
Character Education!
Joe
Crone and your students will work together for 4 fun filled days
to create a moving character education focused concert for your
school community. In daily workshops with Joe, your students will
not only develop and refine their drama, singing and performance
skills, they will also gain a fuller understanding of their human
family. The workshops will be both process and product oriented,
with a character education theme woven throughout.
On
the evening of the 4th day of Joe's visit, usually the Thursday
evening, Joe and your students will present a moving and uplifting
character education and curriculum based concert of original songs
and dramas for your school community titled "We Can Move the
World". Watch your students shine as they embrace their beautiful
human family through original songs, dance, and drama.

"Joe
captured the hearts of staff and students immediately as he began
to work with our community. His energy, enthusiasm, versatility
and creativity in the area of Character Education permeated throughout
our building during this week. Well done, Joe!"
Eileen Berg, Principal
****************
As
a former teacher of 15 years, Joe knows how busy teachers are. He
has designed his visit to minimize any extra impact that his visit
will have on teaching staff, while at the same time allowing the
students to shine! Far from being extra work, classroom teachers
can use the workshop time to gain professional development by learning
drama techniques that they can use in their own classroom, and can
observe their students fulfilling curriculum expectations in the
areas of drama and music.
****************
"The
children loved working with Joe! Parents were delighted and I learned
how to use a variety of drama techniques along with my students!"
B. Mahabir, Teacher
"Joe made an instant connection with the students who absolutely
worshiped him. He was highly organized and provided all the props
and costumes for the students. The parents raved about the performance
and were pleased it reinforced "Character Education".
Joe is a remarkable person who enjoys bringing the gifts of music
and drama to children."
Charlotte Swift, Principal

How
does it work?
· Joe has specialist training in dramatic arts from the Ontario
Ministry of Education, has written over 100 songs for children and
adults, and has recorded 6 CDs of original music. He has paired
about 30 of his songs with dramas that can be used, as they are,
props and costumes included, or adapted to include new creative
ideas from your students.
· Joe will send out his CDs ahead of time to your school
contact, along with a description of the character trait or virtue
that each song and drama addresses.
· Teachers will choose the song they wish their class or
"performance group" to sing and dramatize. A "performance
group" may be made up of 2 smaller classes.
· Songs and dramas range from "A Memory" which
traces the past, present, and future evolution of humanity and involves
tribal dancing, white drama masks, guitar and song, to "Geometry
Park" where life sized triangles and polygons overcome their
prejudice and become friends, to a kindergarten choir pledging allegiance
to their family, school, community, and the world.
· After four days of workshops, during the afternoon of the
fourth day, the students and Joe will present a dress rehearsal
performance to your student body. Later that day, in the evening,
they will perform for their parents and your school community. Children
will sing lead vocals, by themselves or along with Joe, and will
perform the dramas that they have developed during their workshops.
· Joe will provide a script for student M.C.s to read. This
will weave the songs and dramas together to create a powerful character
education theme for the entire evening.
· A Power Point presentation of your school community, paired
with the song "We Can Move the World", will be presented
at the concert in addition to the songs the students perform.
· Your school library will receive a copy of Joe's CD "Geometry
Park", its accompanying teacher's guide full of integrated
art and drama activities, a copy of Joe's CD "We Can Move the
World" and its accompanying songbook.
Joe's
visit and the concert "We Can Move the World" can become
an important part of your school year. It is recommended, for example,
that the school embrace the theme of the evening and use it as an
opportunity to develop and display students' artwork. It is also
recommended that the concert be a fund-raising, or outreach event,
that will raise money for needy projects throughout your own community
or in developing nations, for example, The Stephen Lewis Foundation's
Cotlands Orphanage, a local group home, Free the children, UNICEF,
etc. In this way character education will involve concrete steps
toward making the world a better place. Fundraising events and information
for your school's chosen charity will be highlighted throughout
the evening concert. Joe will also donate 20% of his CD sales to
the school's chosen charity.

"Outstanding! Great spirit builder for the school. Everyone
was involved and performed in a relaxed, no pressure atmosphere.
All the songs had great learning or character messages. I couldn't
believe how quickly it was put together. It looked like a performance
we had practiced for months but it was put together in as little
as 3 or 4 half hour sessions. All the students loved "J.C.".
Smiles all around. All schools should get this guy!"
Tracey Woodhead, Teacher
"Joe, thanks for a super fast, super fun musical/drama week
for my class. It was the easiest music night ever from a teacher
point of view. My kids loved it too!"
Helen Derry, Teacher

What
does your school have to do?
·
Provide a school contact. Joe will correspond with your school contact
and send them his CDs along with an easy to follow checklist of
things to do. For example: working out practice schedules, practice
location, performance groups, etc.
· Your teachers need to choose a song for their classes to
perform. In order to make the most out of Joe's visit, students
need to know the vocals to their song before the visit. Joe will
provide the music and words in his follow-up package, so the teachers
simply need to distribute copies of the words and play the songs
in their classrooms.
· Teachers will need to be present during workshops for supervisory
purposes and to address any discipline needs should they arise,
they usually don't. They will also need to be with their classes
during the evening concert.
· Provide a practice space for the first 3 days of the visit.
This is usually the school library or, in the rare case, an empty
classroom.
· Provide a performance space, usually the school gym, for
the entire forth day and for the evening of the performance.
· Provide 2 student M.C.'s.
· Provide 2 students to sell Joe's C.D.'s before, during
and immediately after the concert.
· Provide a sound system with a minimum of 2 microphones,
and a mixing board with a minimum of 5 inputs.
· Get your staff and kids excited about Joe's visit. It'll
be great.

"Joe
has a gift with children. He appeals to them in a way that is engaging,
respectful, loving and entertaining. All age groups love working
with Joe, from kindergarten students through to grade eights. Even
kids who often refuse to participate are drawn in by Joe and give
it their very best. The performance level after three short practice
sessions with Joe was phenomenal! Definitely one of the very best
visiting artists we have ever had at our school!"

Elementary School, Angus
Celebrate
character education in your primary division with "I
Am Building My House", a participatory musical performance
for primary students focusing on character development with singer\songwriter
and dramatic arts specialist Joe Crone.
Joe
will visit your school for one day to work with some of your primary
classes. During the last teaching block of the day, he and the classes
that he's worked with will present an afternoon concert to your
primary division. Joe will use drama and music to help create a
sense of community and caring in your classrooms. His original songs
focus on working together, celebrating and understanding differences,
caring for the world and love for our human family. Through drama
and active participation in Joe's songs, your children will be laughing,
clapping, singing and playing their way to a better understanding
of the diversity and love for our world and each other. During daytime
workshops, Joe and the students will develop dramas that accompany
his songs. The number of classes that will be able to work with
Joe during the day will depend on your schedule, and any preparation
that your school does ahead of his visit. For example, his CDs can
be mailed out to your school prior to his visit, classes can choose
a song, learn it, and accompany Joe during the concert. Joe will
work with another class to develop the accompanying drama. The concert
will be comprised of the songs that have been developed during the
day as well as other songs. All of the songs are participatory in
nature.
